what is 4g – swtiching to 4g

The major cell phone companies like Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint and ATT have all been marketing their 4g phones and service. The g in 3g or 4g stands for generation. Each generation refers to a major change in the technology which allows them to deliver faster speeds and better service.

If you are considering switching from your current phone to a 4g cell phone you need to consider at least one major factor. Most of the cell phone providers have limited coverage for 4g mobile phones. For example Verizon currently only offers 4g coverage in the largest cities and has huge areas where you would only be able to access 3g signal. This could be extremely disappointing if you are expecting to have the speed and services like using your phone as a wifi hotspot and you live or work outside the coverage area.

I am sure this will be changing quite rapidly so you will need to keep checking the coverage maps to see if they have added service to your area.

Another thing to consider is that the first line of phones in each generation usually have hardware and software issues that need to be addressed. If you wait 12 months the manufacturers like HTC and service providers will have time to improve the product and you will be much happier.

If you love new technology you may want to jump right in and buy a phone now and be part of the group working out all the bugs. I am waiting until next year.
